I recently spent some time with Mark Adlington in his studio, looking through his latest work. Mark has spent the last three years meticulously recording the animals the Arabian peninsular in a series of stunning sketches and drawings in pastel and mixed media. That his drawings and watercolours are done from life is self-evident and there is a fluid simplicity in his work that is quite breathtaking. In a few strokes an Arabian leopard leaps out of the page at you and a fox looks imploring up from the paper. His vibrant yet restrained use of colour is masterful as is his ability to convert space into form. arks on a certain pose of an animal or his excitement at being able to capture one that is particularly hard to find.
